Tabaquismo activo y pasivo asociados a calidad del sueño en universitarios

Resumen

Introducción: La inhalación del humo del tabaco, independiente de si es fumando o expuesto al humo, tiene efectos en la calidad del sueño.

Objetivo: Determinar la asociación entre el tabaquismo activo y pasivo con la calidad del sueño en universitarios.

Métodos: Estudio transversal analítico. Se aplicó el índice de calidad del sueño de Pittsburg. El hábito tabáquico se evaluó a través del tabaquismo activo y tabaquismo pasivo en el hogar o en el trabajo, en una muestra de 2495 estudiantes. Para determinar la razón de prevalencia cruda (RPc) y ajustada (RPa, se usó un modelo lineal generalizado de la familia de Poisson con varianza robusta. Cada medida de asociación se presenta con su intervalo de confianza al 95 % (IC95 %).

Resultados: La prevalencia de fumador activo fue 12,26 % y del pasivo, 16,67 %. En el análisis multivariable, se halló que los fumadores activos tenían la probabilidad de 2,23 más veces de tener mala calidad de sueño (PR: 2,23; IC 95 % 1,89–2,61); los pasivos tenían 1,74 veces la probabilidad de tener mala calidad de sueño (PR: 1,74; IC 95 % 1,48–2,03).

Conclusiones: El humo del tabaco, inhalado como fumador directo o fumador indirecto, se asocia con la calidad del sueño en estudiantes universitarios.
