Conocimiento, actitud y percepciones de cirujanos dentistas sobre teleodontología

Introducción: La teleodontología se ha considerado como una herramienta esencial en la práctica odontológica moderna, especialmente tras la pandemia de COVID-19. Sin embargo, persiste una variabilidad significativa con el conocimiento, las actitudes y las percepciones de los odontólogos sobre su uso.
Objetivo: Analizar la evidencia científica disponible sobre el conocimiento, la actitud y las percepciones de cirujanos dentistas sobre teleodontología.
Métodos: Se realizó una revisión sistemática de la literatura siguiendo las directrices PRISMA. Se efectuaron búsquedas en las bases de datos Scopus, PubMed y Scielo, sin restricciones de año de publicación, incluyendo artículos originales en inglés o español que abordaran el conocimiento, la actitud o la percepción de cirujanos dentistas sobre teleodontología. Se identificaron 239 registros y, tras aplicar los criterios de selección, se incluyeron 24 estudios.
Resultados: Los estudios evaluados fueron principalmente de diseño transversal con cuestionarios en línea. La mayoría de los odontólogos presentó un conocimiento conceptual adecuado sobre teleodontología y reconoció sus beneficios para la atención remota, aunque se evidenciaron deficiencias en aspectos normativos, éticos y técnicos. Las actitudes fueron predominantemente positivas, valorando su utilidad para reducir costos y mejorar el acceso en zonas rurales. Las percepciones fueron favorables en cuanto a la eficiencia y la educación al paciente, pero persistieron dudas sobre la precisión diagnóstica y la infraestructura tecnológica necesaria.
Conclusiones: Los cirujanos dentistas muestran un conocimiento suficiente, actitudes favorables y percepciones positivas hacia la teleodontología y le atribuyen un alto potencial como herramienta complementaria para la práctica clínica.
