Introduction: Intestinal intussusception is a disease in which a proximal segment of the intestine and its mesentery invaginate into the lumen of the adjacent distal segment. Several benign and malignant etiologies have been described; its presentation in the adult population is rare, with nonspecific and late symptoms. Objective: To present the clinical case of a patient with intestinal obstruction, secondary to an ileo-ileal intussusception, caused by the presence of ectopic pancreatic tissue in a Meckel's diverticulum.
Clinical case: A 37-year-old male patient with a history of marijuana and cocaine use, presented sudden-onset abdominal pain and was diagnosed with intestinal obstruction. Contrast-enhanced tomography revealed ileo-ileal intussusception caused by a Meckel's diverticulum. Exploratory laparotomy with segmental resection and ileo-ileal anastomosis was performed. Histopathology confirmed the presence of ectopic pancreatic tissue. The patient recovered without complications after surgery.
Conclusions: This case highlights the importance of considering ileo-ileal intussusception as a possible cause of intestinal obstruction in adults, especially when associated with a Meckel diverticulum containing ectopic pancreatic tissue.
