Introduction: Septic thrombosis of the cavernous sinus is a rare disease, described as thrombophlebitis in the cavernous sinus, caused by facial infections in the middle third of the face. It can present as an acute fatal condition.
Objective: To describe the symptoms and evolution of a patient with septic thrombosis of the cavernous sinus.
Clinical Case: A 17-year-old male patient with a history of apparent health, treated in emergency for pain and increased volume in the right hemiface after trying to extract a molar from the upper arch on that same side, with a fork. Septic thrombophlebitis of the cavernous sinus was diagnosed; he was admitted to the intensive care unit, the evolution was unfavorable and the patient died.
Conclusions: Cavernous sinus thrombosis is rare, however, its evolution endangers the patient's life. The characteristic signs in this case were periorbital edema, proptosis and panophthalmoplegia. Its high lethality requires a rapid and accurate diagnosis.
