Introduction: Correctly organizing the causes of death in death certificates guarantees a quality clinical-pathological correlation.
Objective: To analyze from the anatomopathological point of view the main diseases that are involved in the chronopathogram.
Opinion: Among the diseases that are most frequently associated with the causes of death, both in Cuba and in the world, are: atherosclerosis, diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension, cancer, infections, surgical interventions, pulmonary thromboembolism, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, aneurysms, shock and multiple organ damage. Knowing their location in the chronopathogram in detail constitutes the fundamental pillar in the preparation of the medical death certificate.
Conclusions: The correct location in the chronopathogram of the main diseases linked to death is guaranteed by the autopsy, which in turn corroborates the correspondence with the clinic.
