Intersectorality as a social technology in elderly care

Introduction: For the improvement of health in the elderly population, innovative technologies such as intersectorality are needed.
Objective: To describe the need for the application of intersectorality as a technology in the treatment of older adults.
Methods: A narrative review was conducted between December 2023 and August 2024, through the Scielo, Medline databases, and the Google Scholar search engine, using keywords in Spanish. Around 1320 documents were recovered, including books, theses, and scientific articles, from which X most relevant to the study were selected. The selected studies were published in open access journals and high-impact books or articles on the topic, in Spanish or English.
Results: Intersectoriality as a technology is based on the application of scientific knowledge to the solution of practical problems through a culture that provides methods to interact with the physical-social environment and improve living conditions. Intersectoriality in the treatment of older adults is an essential way to improve oral health and the needs for dental services that older adults may have, as a tool for social and community health work.
Conclusions: The impact of aging on society, health and dental services, and the growing demands for care of the population over 60 years of age due to the characteristics of their age, show the need to apply intersectoriality as a guarantee of greater health and well-being.
