Pigmented nodular malignant melanoma

Introduction: Melanomas are malignant tumors that originate in melanocytes, highly differentiated cells that originate in the neural crest and are responsible for melanin synthesis.
Objective: To present a clinical case of nodular malignant melanoma, its characteristics, early diagnosis, and timely treatment.
Clinical Case: A 59-year-old white female patient with no prior medical history presented to a dermatology clinic with a lesion on the sole of her right foot. Physical examination revealed a 3 cm diameter tumor with raised, well-defined borders, central ulceration, a black color, and a two-month history. A diagnosis of pigmented nodular malignant melanoma was made clinically and histologically, with a favorable response to surgical and chemotherapeutic treatment.
Conclusions: The likelihood of surviving nodular melanoma depends on the size and depth of the primary tumor, as well as the difficulty of curing it when detected in advanced stages. To achieve early detection, preventive measures need to be implemented, aimed at increasing the training of health personnel and the population, in relation to the warning signs of a pigmented lesion and its evolution to malignant melanoma.
