Introduction: Cardiovascular manifestations frequently occur in patients with rheumatic diseases; they constitute elements that affect their perception of quality of life and functional capacity.
Objective: To analyze the importance of cardiovascular involvement as a systemic manifestation in people with rheumatic diseases.
Development: This paper reflects on the underlying pathogenetic mechanisms that generate the appearance of cardiovascular manifestations; its clinical implications and the need for a multidisciplinary approach in the evaluation and treatment of patients with rheumatic diseases are also addressed.
Conclusions: Cardiovascular involvement, as a systemic manifestation in people with rheumatic diseases, represents a critical dimension that must be recognized, evaluated, and treated comprehensively. Chronic inflammation, characteristic of these conditions, plays a central role in the genesis of endothelial dysfunction; it contributes to the acceleration of atherosclerosis and the development of cardiac and vascular complications that significantly increase morbidity and mortality.
