Professional performance in the use of iMagis® software for neurological diagnosis

Introduction: The digital transformation, the emergence of devices and powerful computing systems, and the development of innovative applications and software facilitate the incorporation of new technologies in the field of health.
Objective: To determine the state of professional performance of medical specialists in the use of iMagis® software for the diagnosis of neurological conditions.
Methods: A mixed-methods (quantitative and qualitative) study was conducted at the "Dr. Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso" General Hospital in Santiago de Cuba from September 2019 to August 2020. The sample consisted of 36 specialist physicians working in inpatient wards who use the iMagis® software. The variable was the specialist physicians' professional performance in using the software for diagnosing neurological conditions, analyzed in three dimensions: technological, clinical, and professional development, using eight indicators. Methodological triangulation allowed for the identification of problems, progress, and potential. Percentages and weighted averages were used as quantitative measures.
Results: The technological dimension was the most affected with an average score of 2.96 at a low level. The care and improvement dimensions were at a medium level with their respective final scores of 3.22 and 3.75. With methodological triangulation, the final score was 3.31 that classify it in the medium category.
Conclusions: There was insufficient proficiency and skill in handling the technological tools required to diagnose neurological conditions. Despite the high motivation shown by the specialists to engage in professional development activities, booth participation and access opportunities to such activities remain in a stage of ongoing progress.
