Introduction: The initial cycle assessment constitutes a key formative mechanism to ensure coherence between assessed content and learning outcomes in health higher education. Its relevance directly influences the quality of the educational process and the development of professional competencies.
Objective: To analyze the relevance of content in the initial cycle assessment in medical technology training.
Methods: A quantitative, observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted among fifth-semester students. An evaluation rubric and a self-assessment instrument were used to analyze three formative dimensions: basic, professional, and general. Data were processed using descriptive statistics.
Results: Coherence between evaluation criteria and learning outcomes was observed in most dimensions. However, inconsistencies were identified in the alignment between the rubric and evaluation records, as well as gaps in the integration of theoretical content and its practical application. Weaknesses were noted in the educational domain and transversal competencies, associated with limitations in curricular articulation.
Conclusions: The initial cycle assessment constitutes a relevant mechanism for ensuring educational quality; however, it requires optimization in the design and coherence of its instruments. The incorporation of active pedagogical strategies and curricular alignment enhances the relevance of the assessment process and the development of competencies in health training.
