Tuberculosis, enfermedad reemergente y su impacto como amenaza en la salud pública

Introducción: La tuberculosis es una enfermedad infecciosa ampliamente distribuida en el mundo y constituye un desafío para la salud pública, debido a las dificultades asociadas con su diagnóstico y tratamiento.
Objetivo: Analizar los factores sociales y de salud pública que favorecen la propagación de la tuberculosis y proponer estrategias de intervención, diagnóstico oportuno y tratamiento.
Desarrollo: Factores como pobreza, desnutrición, hacinamiento y la infección por el virus de inmunodeficiencia humana VIH facilitan la transmisión de Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Se estima que alrededor del 25 % de la población mundial presenta infección por este patógeno. La enfermedad puede presentarse en formas pulmonares y extrapulmonares, con manifestaciones como tos crónica y compromiso de órganos como riñones, cerebro y ganglios linfáticos, que genera cuadros de diversa gravedad.
Conclusiones: El control de la tuberculosis requiere políticas integrales que incluyan promoción de la salud, prevención, diagnóstico oportuno y tratamiento, además del fortalecimiento de los sistemas sanitarios y de los recursos disponibles.
