Abstract

Introduction: Rheumatic diseases and lymphomas have as common elements the affectation of the immune system, specifically T and B lymphocytes and the presence of viral infections as a possible triggering factor for these diseases. The presence of rheumatic diseases increases the risk of appearance of lymphomas. COVID-19 is a viral disease that affects the immune system, so it could be the trigger for the appearance of lymphomas in patients with rheumatic diseases.
Objective: To present the clinical, epidemiological and laboratory characteristics of 2 patients with rheumatic disease, a history of involvement by COVID-19 on 3 occasions and clinical manifestations of lymphoma.
Clinical case: 2 patients diagnosed with rheumatic diseases and SARS-CoV-2 infection 3 times each are presented. One year after the last respiratory episode, they began with clinical manifestations that allowed for the diagnosis of Hodgkin lymphoma in a 27-year-old male patient with rheumatoid arthritis and non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and a 58-year-old female patient with a history of rheumatoid arthritis and Sjögren's syndrome.
Conclusions: COVID-19 infection may have favored the appearance of lymphomas in patients with rheumatic disease. However, more studies and evidence are needed to confirm this finding.
