Introduction: Periodontal diseases can be considered as a further risk factor for the occurrence of preterm labor. Objective: To design a predictive model of preterm labor according to the severity of periodontal disease in the pregnant woman.
Methods: An analytical case-control study was carried out in puerperal women admitted from 2011 to 2022. 250 cases were selected with preterm deliveries and 500 controls with term deliveries. Periodontal and gynecobstetric predictors were determined, through univariate analysis, by binary logistic regression and odds ratio calculation, with significance level of p= 0.05. A model was developed, its discriminant power was assessed by means of the area under the curve and for its calibration the omnibus tests, Cox's R2, Snell's, Nagelkerke's and Hosmer-Lemeshow's goodness-of-fit test for p= 0.05 were calculated. The statistical design was carried out using the SPSS version 22 computer package.
Results: The discriminant capacity of the model was good (0.805). The proportion of variability of preterm deliveries that is explained by the model was between 25% and 35% and there were no differences between observed and expected predicted values, indicating an adjusted model (p= 0.72) that ensures a correct prediction of more than 50% of preterm deliveries.
Conclusions: The model obtained predicts the risk of preterm delivery according to the severity of periodontal disease.
