Endoscopic transoral thyroidectomy with vestibular approach
Keywords:
natural orifice endoscopic surgery, thyroid gland, thyroidectomy.Abstract
Introduction: Thyroidectomy has become a fundamental procedure for the head and neck general surgeon in the treatment of both benign and malignant diseases of the thyroid gland. Like other remote access approaches to the thyroid, endoscopic transoral thyroidectomy with vestibular approach (TOETVA) has been shown to have good postoperative outcomes, as well as a better aesthetic result for the patient. Objective: To analyze the updated reports on transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy with vestibular approach (TOETVA).
Development:The indications for endoscopic transoral thyroidectomy with vestibular approach (TOETVA) will depend mainly on the level of experience of the centers reporting their case series. The limitations of this technique do not allow access to the lateral compartment or intervention on large lesions and, in cases of cancer, its use remains controversial.
Conclusions: TOETVA has proven to be a promising procedure with feasibility and safety in selected patients. According to the literature, it is a safe and feasible approach and provides favorable aesthetic results compared to traditional thyroidectomy.
