Introduction: Pressure ulcers constitute a major problem, whose magnitude, for patients, health services and society in general, means that they are considered a public health problem, which requires all the necessary means and resources to treat them. Objective: To characterize bedridden patients affected by in-hospital pressure ulcer (PU).
Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out with data from the period from 2017 to 2019 and the year 2022 at the "Dr. Joaquín Castillo Duany." 109 patients who developed PU during admission were selected. The variables studied were: age, services where the UPP developed, stages of the UPP, average length of stay and average number of days from admission until the appearance of the UPP.
Results: The age group between 61 and 80 years predominated (52.3%), patients who developed PU did so more frequently in intensive care services (61.5%), the average length of stay was above those 20 days, the appearance of UPP was between 11 and 12 days after the patient was admitted.
Conclusions: Bedridden patients with in-hospital pressure ulcers are elderly, female, admitted to intensive care services, with a prolonged stay, PUs appear after 11 days of admission, and are more frequently discharged with UPP in stage II.
