Patient with ulcerated papillary breast carcinoma
Keywords:
infiltrating ductal carcinoma, mastectomy, breast neoplasms.Abstract
Introduction: Breast cancer is the main cause of death from neoplasms in women between 45 and 65 years of age. Although papillary breast lesions are rare, this case presents an unusual variant: An ulcerated papillary carcinoma, which highlights the importance of early detection for timely diagnosis and treatment. The rarity of ulceration in this type of cancer is explored.
Objective: To describe a clinical case of an ulcerated papillary tumor of the breast.
Clinical Case: An 84-year-old female patient with a history of high blood pressure went to the mastology clinic where a palpable 8 cm mass was detected that was ulcerated, bleeding and had changes in skin color. Imaging studies confirmed a 7 x 6 cm tumor. A modified radical mastectomy and lymph node dissection was performed; the pathological report revealed a papillary carcinoma with infiltrative axillary lymphadenopathy. The patient had a satisfactory evolution.
Conclusions: Papillary lesions of the breast are rare; early detection is key in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.
