Introduction: The essential features of the professions establish links incorporated into the evaluation processes of the professional ultrasound competencies in the fulfillment of the basic functions.
Objective: To compare the self-perception of the professional ultrasound competencies with the verification of the performance, in imaging technologists.
Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study. A non-probabilistic intentional sample of 30 imaging technologists from the health care levels in Havana was considered. In the research two instruments were applied; the first consisted of a questionnaire and the second a performance observation guide. The Wilcoxon test was used to compare the self-perception of the competencies and the performance with a significance level p≤ 0.05. For the collection of the information, descriptive statistics were used with the calculation of frequencies.
Results: The dimension with the greatest difficulties was the investigative one; 58% of the respondents qualified as not mastering it. In the performance guide, in the care dimension (89%) and medical ethics (83%) they rated as almost always dominant.
Conclusions: There are no differences between the self-perception of competencies and professional performance in ultrasound of health technologists, except in the care dimension.
