Brain fog as a neurological manifestation of post-COVID-19 syndrome in a female patient with rheumatoid arthritis

Introduction: Neurological manifestations can be expressed as part of the complications of rheumatoid arthritis and COVID-19. In patients with both conditions the inflammatory process can affect other organs and organ systems.Objective: To present a female patient, with a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis and a history of COVID-19 in whom the diagnosis of brain fog was made.
Clinical Case: Female patient, 52 years old, with a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis of 9 years of evolution and a history of COVID-19 4 months ago, which began with neurological manifestations consisting of disorders of memory, concentration, attention and frequent headache. Laboratory tests showed the presence of an inflammatory process; no alterations were found in the imaging studies. The diagnosis of brain fog syndrome was confirmed. The therapeutic scheme was maintained and psychological care was added. There was improvement in the clinical picture and follow-up is maintained with both specialties.
Conclusions: The complexity of rheumatoid arthritis affecting joints and other organ systems is illustrated; COVID-19 also affects the neurological system, presenting brain fog as an expression of post-COVID-19 syndrome.
