Subjective well-being and resilience in the prison population
Keywords:
health, prisons, prisoners, psychology, psychological resilienceAbstract
Introduction: People deprived of liberty constitute a population sector with particular conditions of confinement that often significantly affect their well-being. Given this, it is important to identify research that relates the factors that influence positive psychological functioning and that promote protective capital in this context.
Objective: To systematically analyze the available information on subjective well-being and resilience in the prison population, in order to identify key factors that allow the development of effective strategies to promote their comprehensive health.
Methods: Using the PRISMA statement, articles were selected using the same search strategy in the following databases: Scopus, Pubmed, Web of Science, ProQuest Psychology and LILACS. The studies were then filtered according to the eligibility criteria, to finally include those that met 75% of methodological quality after being evaluated using the AXIS checklist.
Results: There is a bidirectional relationship between both constructs; both independently and together, subjective well-being and resilience have a favorable impact on the physical and mental health of people deprived of liberty.
Conclusions: This study is relevant in promoting health and effective rehabilitation environments by opening a dialogue on the capacity of adaptation and recovery of persons deprived of liberty in the face of the impact of imprisonment.
