Being biopsychosocial and spiritual interpreted from the patient's narrative
Keywords:
being, biopsychosocial, medical interview, narrative medicine, patient, physician, religious, spiritualityAbstract
Introduction: The biopsychosocial and spiritual self integrates the biological, psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions of the individual, offering a holistic view of health. This perspective is crucial because it allows us to understand how patients interpret and cope with their health conditions; thus, it provides a comprehensive framework for care and recovery.
Objective: To analyze how the patient's narrative reveals and reflects the interactions between these four dimensions; its importance in the healing process; and the meaning and purpose of the patient's experience through illness.
Opinion: The patient's narrative is a tool that allows patients to express their experiences and emotions; it offers healthcare professionals a deeper understanding of their needs and challenges. Integrating these dimensions would aid in treatment adherence and provide more empathetic and effective professional care.
Conclusions: Interpreting illness from a biopsychosocial and spiritual perspective, through the patient narrative, is essential for holistic healthcare. This integration allows for a better understanding of the patient's experiences and needs, facilitating a treatment approach that promotes not only physical healing but also emotional and spiritual well-being.
