Introduction: University students at the Ministry of the Interior in Cuba, in addition to their academic responsibilities, have other tasks related to internal order and personal protection. These tasks demand physical and psychological fitness due to the training and commitment required for functions that contribute to national security.
Objective: To characterize the psychological well-being of university students at the Ministry of the Interior.
Methods: A mixed-methods design was used, with a sequential exploratory approach, in a purposive sample of 49 students. Techniques included document analysis, in-depth interviews, participant observation, and the application of the Ryff Psychological Well-being Scale. Qualitative analysis and descriptive statistics were performed.
Results: The students presented a moderate level of psychological well-being. The lowest dimension was autonomy; they depend on the judgment of others for decision-making and feel social pressure. The highest dimensions were personal growth and purpose in life, oriented toward professional development and institutional recognition, self-knowledge, and clear goals.
Conclusions: The students show average well-being, with some dependence on external judgments, personal stagnation and limited life projection, although they maintain good interpersonal relationships and control over their daily environment.
