Abstract

Introduction: Artificial intelligence is a technology capable of simulating human cognitive processes through algorithms and computer systems. It offers numerous advantages in the publishing process, despite the ethical dilemmas and limitations that may arise.

Objective: To identify the advantages, risks, and ethical challenges of artificial intelligence in the writing and publication of scientific articles, through a comprehensive view of its current and future impact.

Methods: A literature review was conducted by searching, selecting, and analyzing scientific publications in Spanish, Portuguese, and English in specialized databases between 2022 and 2025. Scientific publications found in PubMed, Redalyc, and SciELO were located using Google Scholar. Sixty-eight articles were found, and 30 were selected based on their direct relevance to the topic.

Development: Artificial intelligence is used to assist in writing, manuscript classification, peer review, and advanced fraud and plagiarism detection. The main advantages include a significant increase in the efficiency and speed of the editorial process, improved error control, and bias mitigation. However, it also presents critical risks related to authorship and intellectual responsibility, the generation of false or plagiarized content, potential algorithmic bias, and over-reliance on artificial intelligence.

Conclusion: The key to a sustainable future lies in the development and implementation of clear and mandatory ethical guidelines that promote the transparent and responsible use of AI, while maintaining intellectual responsibility in human hands.
