At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, notable Cuban doctors gained worldwide renown. Among them, the personality of Joaquín María Albarrán Domínguez stands out, in whose short life he was able to combine and wisely apply the knowledge of Clinic, Surgery, Anatomy and Physiology to the specialty of Urology, until reaching achievements of universal stature. In this historical review article, the main milestones in the lifework of Dr. Joaquín María Albarrán Domínguez and its significance for the history of Medicine were analyzed. The work of this eminent medical doctor was characterized not only by the highest attributes of scientific, medical and educational excellence, but also by a deep love for his homeland, an energetic fervor for its bright scientific future, and great values as a human being. Just as his professional imprint transcended the barriers of time, his Cubanness defied geographical borders. He is a figure worthy of being remembered, especially by the new generations of health professionals.Downloads
